Deforestation (EUDR)
Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (EUDR – European Union Deforestation Regulation) introduces new obligations for all companies that place certain raw materials and related derived products on the European market or export them.
The purpose of the regulation is to combat deforestation and forest degradation globally by ensuring that products traded within the European Union do not originate from land affected by deforestation and have been produced in full compliance with the legislation in force in the country of origin.
In order to import such goods, it is necessary to demonstrate, through a properly documented due diligence process, that the risk of non-compliance is nil or negligible. This requires the collection, verification and retention of information and documents that guarantee the traceability and compliance of the entire supply chain.
Which products are affected?
The Regulation applies to the main commodities considered to be at risk of deforestation and their derived products, including:
- timber and timber products,
- cattle,
- hides and leather,
- cocoa,
- coffee,
- palm oil,
- natural rubber,
- soya and its derivatives.
The scope of application covers numerous customs codes and involves importers, distributors and processing companies.

We provide assistance in preparing and checking the documentation required for import, verifying the compliance of commercial and customs documents, phytosanitary certificates, wooden packaging in accordance with the ISPM 15 standard, and FLEGT licences, where applicable. We coordinate every stage of the documentation process to ensure that operations are carried out in full compliance with customs regulations and applicable legislation.

Our support continues even after customs clearance. We assist companies in ensuring their documentation is properly preserved for the period required by law, provide support in the event of inspections by the relevant authorities, and ensure they are kept up to date with regulatory developments and operational procedures relating to the EUDR.
